Quest HPi Hits High Notes for Salvation Army

Sunday 26th June saw the Salvation Army Box Hill (Victoria Australia) unveil their new Quest speaker system to a congregation that knows a thing or two about music and how it should sound.

The basic acoustics and practicalities of installing a sound system in many church auditoriums often lead to a degraded outcome, as far as a sound system's full potential is concerned. Limitations on where the system can be installed plus the reverberant nature of the space can degrade voice intelligibility considerably.

The finished installation is tidy and ready for action

Thanks to the lightweight HPi array, installation was relatively easy and the system could be flown from the existing hanging points without the need for expensive structural changes to the building. The asymmetrical coverage of the system also aided in the sound being directed away from the walls and ceiling to directly cover the congregation.

The result is a very highly intelligible high frequency reproduction and this greatly assists voice duplication to the older members of the congregation. The system coverage to the whole church is even and of similar sound pressure level regardless of seat location. The entire church floor area is covered by just three HPi110 speakers and for bass enhancement, a pair of 15" QM600S sub bass speakers.

For the younger members who wish to perform contemporary Christian rock, the sound system copes with this easily as the HPi-110 boxes can handle 600W RMS continuous.

The installation was performed by Billy Hyde Commercial Installations in conjunction with an A/V upgrade.
