Quest Audio on Geelong's waterfront makes big splash

The iconic Geelong venue Sailors' Rest hotel has just completed a meticulous renovation to the high standard complementing its prime waterfront position. The three story hotel has multiple floors of restaurant/bar space, function spaces, outdoor and rooftop bars. Particular attention was paid to restore the old world 1900's Edwardian style while tastefully modernising for 21st century demands.

Part of the design brief was state of the art audio/video, but in a way that blends seamlessly into the architectural old world ambiance. Being next to the ocean, a high IP rating was essential along with the need for high fidelity performance and low visual profile.

A combination of ultra compact Quest MX and HPI series loudspeakers were selected. The architect was impressed with the way the Quest systems could be assimilated visually into the venue spaces, and the venue owners liked the high quality audio performance. This is a venue that can be open 16 hours a day and the multi function full range audio/video system must deliver everything from high intelligibility spoken word to DJ and live music as required.

For the areas requiring high SPL full range sound, the Quest HPI5/25 and HPI111 loudspeakers supported by the very compact HPI12S sub bass do a great job and perform at the level of a high end European nightclub. For background levels up to mid level SPL, the stylish Quest MX series has plenty in reserve.

Getting the AV right in this type of installation is a challenge. Many competent design specialists contributed to bring this venue to completion, and the finished product is something special.
